Founded in 1931 by Simón Barceló, from the creation of a small family business located in the town of Felanitx Mallorca (Spain), specialized in transporting people and goods, the Barceló Group has grown hand in hand with 3 generations who have made him one of the most important tourism corporations in Spain and the world. The trajectory of the Barceló Group, which today employs over 25,000 people worldwide, is marked by a series of milestones and key dates which have addressed the future of the company.

Barcelo Hotels is owned by Barcelo Corporacion Empresarial and is a chain of about 145 hotels and resorts. Located mostly in Europe, Latin America and the United States, the company features three levels of hotel service. The company features all inclusive resorts, high level service hotels and general hotels. Some hotels in the chain are adults only. The company accepts reservations from some travel agencies. There is also a reservation service that is run by the hotel company. Barcelo joined with Crestwood Group in 2003 and manages a number of additional hotels through this group in eleven states. Most of the Crestwood locations are in Virginia. The company sold its United Kingdom locations in 2009.  The company is still completely family owned and the third generation has come into operating the company. The company is led by Simon Pedro Barcelo and the business is still headquartered in Mallajorca. Most of their hotels operate in Spanish speaking areas of the world.

Business Credibility & Trustworthiness
Barcelo Hotels is not a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has no rating from them. The company is based in Spain so this is probably one reason there is no BBB rating. The company’s resorts have been featured in a number of hospitality media. Barcelo’s management company has been rated the No. 5 in the Top 100 Management Companies in the 2010 survey in HotelBusiness magazine. Hotel & Motel Management ranked Crestline Hotels & Resorts, Inc. as number 5 on its list of “Top Third Party Management Companies” in March 2010.

Pricing & Packages
Pricing varies at each Barcelo property. Various properties are ranked 3, 4, and 5 stars. Compared to other properties in the same area, the pricing at Barcelo is not the most expensive but it is often in the higher range. Of course, many guests take advantage of discounts through the company’s loyalty programs, group bookings and early reservations over popular days. So, it is difficult to know what is actually paid vs. what the company lists as its price per room. It really comes down to if a customer likes the hotel and product supplied by this company. Many customers do.

Shipping Rates & Policies
Barcelo Hotels does not ship any merchandise to its customers. As a hospitality business, all reservations are done on line or over the telephone. Guests receive access to their rooms and other amenities on arrival to the hotel or resort location. Many locations also include transportation from the airport depending on the level of room that has been rented by the customer.

Payment Methods Accepted
Barcelo Hotels reservations often are actuallly paid at arrival at the hotel. Room rates are estimates and can be affected by changes in the currency rates. Some countries such as Mexico have laws that require the bill to be paid in the local currancy. If the hotel requires a deposit, then the company will charge your credit card. Otherwise, the credit card number is held against a reservation not showing up at the hotel. The company only takes credit cards. Barcelo Hotels accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards only. Individual hotels might offer the traveler more options.
